Day 99: Percent of a Number / Inequalities / Pressure Cooker

Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, students blended Social Studies with Mathematics as they read a Scholastic Magazine article about World Heritage Sites.  Students then completed a Socrative dealing with calculating the percent of a number.

During Math 6 - 2°, students discussed yesterday's Topic Six - Dividing Whole Numbers posttest results. Mr. Giomini then spent time reviewing inequalities which was a skill that was assessed yesterday.  A Kahoot! was then completed to help re-assess the student's understanding of inequalities.

Students in Math 6+ competed in a game we like to call, "The Pressure Cooker" to help review for Monday's Concept Five - Percents posttest.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. use one-step equations to solve percent problems. (1, 3, & 7°)
  2. find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100. (1, 3, & 7°)
  3. solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent. (1, 3, & 7°)
  4. calculate percent increase and decrease.  (1, 3, & 7°)
  5. write an inequality of the form x > c or x < c to represent a real-world or mathematical problem. (2°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6(1&3°):
    • Prepare for Monday's posttest.
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  2. Math 6(2°):
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  3. Math 6+:
    • Prepare for Monday's posttest.
    • Work towards 50% mastery on Khan Academy (7th Grade)
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
