Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, Mr. Giomini introduced and modeled unit conversions and dimensional analysis. Students started with conversions that were similar to them such as how many inches in 5.5 feet. Examples became more complex as the class period extended to where problems such as the one below were presented:
Polinko can run at a top speed of 15.5 miles/hour. How many inches per second does he cover?
During Math 6 - 2°, students took the information that they learned from Lesson 5.2 and applied it to more complex patterns and equations to represent them with two-step equations.
Students in Math 6+ discussed the challenging homework from the previous night to help clarify any misconceptions.
Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
- use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. (1, 3, and 7°)
- analyze the relationship between dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables. (2°)
- use variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another. (2°)
- fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
- Math 6(1&3°): Page 37
- Math 6(2°): Page 241 and #17 on 242
- Math 6+: Night off
- All Classes: m > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
