Day 34: Rational Numbers on a Number Line / Properties of Equality / Comparing and Ordering Rational Numbers

Today in Math 6 - 1 & 3°, students reviewed last night's evening practice with Mr. Giomini.  Class spent time reviewing the different skills that have been practiced to this point.

The remainder of class was spent on ordering rational numbers on horizontal and vertical number lines.

During Math 6 - 2°, students reviewed the evening practice from last night.  Mr. Giomini introduced Lesson 2.2: Properties of Equality.  Different properties were discussed such as: Addition Property of Equality, Subtraction Property of Equality, Multiplication Property of Equality, and the Division Property of Equality.

Students in Math 6+, worked with graphing inequalities on a coordinate plane.  Mr. Giomini discussed what an inequality was and how to both read and represent one.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. find and position integers and other rational numbers on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram.  (1 and 3°)
  2. identify when two expressions are equivalent. (2°)
  3. graph absolute value inequalities on a coordinate plane. (7°)
  4. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6 - 1 & 3: Pages 29 and 30
  2. Math 6 - 2°:  Page 87 in the enVision workbook
  3. Math 6+: Handout from Mr. Giomini (CLICK HERE)
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
