Today in Math 6 - 1 & 3°, students worked with solving equations containing integers. Mr. Giomini mainly focused on one-step equations and introduced the students to working with multi-step equations that included the distributive property connecting topics from our previous concept posttest.
During Math 6 - 2°, students worked independently to complete a performance based task that tied in working with the distributive property, substitution, and evaluating algebraic expressions.
Students in Math 6+, worked with a colleague on a performance based task dealing with integers, number lines, and golfing.
Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
- understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question from a specified set. (1 and 3°)
- use substitution to determine whether a number makes an equation true. (1 and 3°)
- evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables. (2°)
- understand p + q as the number located a distance away from the absolute vale q from p, in the positive or negative direction depending on whether q is positive or negative. (7°)
- apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to include integers. (7°)
- fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
- Math 6 - 1 & 3: Page 28
- Math 6 - 2°: Handout from Mr. Giomini
- Math 6+: Handout from Mr. Giomini
- All Classes: m > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
