Class Topics: 09.25.14

In Common Core Math Six today, Mr. Giomini posted an answer key to last night's Evening Practice for students to check over prior to the lesson.

Lesson 2.11: Solving Equations with Addition and Subtraction was introduced and modeled by Mr. Giomini.  During the lesson, students were encouraged to show their work no matter how easy the equation appeared to be to help lay the foundation for future more complex problems. Example problems include:
  • 45 + y = 83, y =
  • r - 15 = 27, r =
  • q + 37 = 101, r
  • Gavin has sold 16 dozen tins of Boy Scout popcorn this week.  This was 7 dozen more than he sold last week.  Write and solve an equation to find how many dozen tins of popcorn he sold last week.
Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • complete pages 40 and 41 in Chapter Two.
