Class Topics: 09.17.14

In Common Core Math Six today, students checked their Evening Practice from Tuesday night with an answer key provided by Mr. Giomini.  Students were reminded about Thursday's quiz that will cover lessons 2.1 - 2.6.

Lesson 2.7: Variables and Algebraic Expressions  was introduced, modeled, and practiced in class. Terms that were introduced today include: variable, constant, algebraic expression, and evaluate. This lesson helps us see we can communicate mathematically with variables in mathematical expressions.

The expression 7d gives the number of days in d weeks. Evaluate 7d for d = 12. How many days 
are in 12 weeks?

  • substitute a given value for a variable in an algebraic expression.
  • evaluate algebraic expressions.
