Class Topics: 02.06.14

In Common Core Math Six, students in 1, 3, and  reviewed the Evening Practice from Lesson 7.3.  Mr. Giomini reviewed terminology from the previous lessons that have been covered in Chapter Seven.  Lesson 7.5 - Polygons was introduced and practiced today in class.  The focus was on classifying different types of polygons and explaining the difference between polygons and regular polygons.

Explain how the thirteen pieces making up the regular hexagon shown
in the diagram can be re-assembled to form three smaller regular
hexagons congruent to each other.

Students in  received their Chapter Six Pretest results in class today.  Mr. Giomini reviewed the Evening Practice from Lesson 6.1: Fractions, Decimals, and Percents.  After ironing out any confusion, class progressed to Lesson 6.2: Estimate with Percents.  The focus of this lesson was finding 1 and 10% of a number to help make estimating easier.  Questions that were asked in class include:
  • 3% of 59 is about what?  What can I do with both numbers to make them easier to work with?
  • 18% of 45 is about what?  What can I do with 18 and 45 to help me make my estimate?
Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • 1, 3, and 4°
    • describe the characteristics of all polygons.
    • identify and name different types of polygons.
    • determine the difference between a polygon and regular polygon.
  • 2° - have a look at Chapter Six skills including,
    • converting between fractions, decimals, and percents.
    • estimating with percents.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1, 3, and 4° -
    • complete Lesson 7.4 Practice C and Problem Solving.
  • 2° -
