Class Topics: 01.23.14

In Common Core Math Six during 1, 3, and , students reviewed last night's Evening Practice and had questions clarified by Mr. Giomini.  Class was broken groups of two again to work on problems dealing with calculating simple interest.

Gruber deposits $8000 in one simple interest account and $2000 in a second simple interest account.  The interest rate on the $8000 is 2% more than the rate on the $2000 account.  If the total yearly amount of interest on the two accounts is $578, find the interest rate on each account.

During , students reviewed the results from yesterday's Chapter Five Midpoint Quiz.  Mr. Giomini then introduced Lesson 5.5: Similar Figures and Proportions.  During this lesson, we took our knowledge of creating proportions from problem situations and applied it to find corresponding side lengths for different shapes.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  •  1, 3, and 4° -
    • find the percent of a number.
    • determine percent change.
    • use a formula to calculate simple interest.
    • analyze story problems for information.
  •  -
    • define corresponding sides and angles.
    • identify corresponding sides and angles to two shapes.
    • determine if two shapes are proportional.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1, 3, and 4° -
    • complete the Google Form posted to the blog.  (CLICK HERE)
  •  -
    • complete Lesson 5.5 Practice C (even).
