Class Topics: 01.09.14

In Common Core Math Six during 1, 3, and , students received their Chapter Six Pretests back from Mr. Giomini. Lesson 6.1: Fractions, Decimals, and Percents was briefly discussed in class. The content from this lesson is covered a great deal in fifth grade.  Class spent a majority of the time with Lesson 6.2: Estimating with Percents. Students learned the important life skills of how much to tip when dining out and where to shop when discounts are offered; Mr. Giomini should have covered this before the holiday shopping season.

Schill's Sizzling Sales claims to offer the best deals in Avon Lake.  Abby
purchases a Disco Dancing Doll from the distributor for a certain price.
Abby raises the price she paid by 60% when she sells it at her store.  She
then advertised a sale for three dozen percent off.  If Sharpe pays $30.72 for the
Disco Dancing Doll, what was the price Schill paid to the distributor?

During , students received their Chapter Five Pretest from Mr. Giomini.  Lesson 5.1: Ratios and Rates by showing the following problem to students:

The perimeter of a rectangle is equal to 280 meters.  The ratio
of its length to its width is 5:2. Find the area of the rectangle.

Terms such as ratiorate, and unit rate were introduced, defined and recorded during the lesson. Students in  applied the concepts playing Jumping Jelly Beans to reinforce the idea of ratios. Class worked with an Interactive Story Problem to help with the application of today's skill.
