Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
- apply multiplication and division facts to find equivalent fractions.
- express ratios in words, as fractions and with colons.
- use proportions to model and solve ratio number stories.
- write an open sentence from cross products.
- use a a method to solve equations.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
- Math Journal pages 300 and 302.
In Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed solving equations with variables on both sides and how to eliminate fractions to simplify the process. Mr. Giomini introduced and modeled the final part of Chapter Ten, Lesson 10.6 - Systems of Equations. This idea of a system of equations is new to students so some definitions are posted below.
- A system of equations is a set of two or more equations that contain two or more variables.
- A solution of a system of equations is a set of values that are solutions of all of the equations. If the system has two variables, the solutions can be written as ordered pairs.
The foundation of this lesson is grounded in material from Chapter One which was revisited to establish the foundation that students currently possess.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
- substitute values into equations.
- determine if an ordered pair is a solution for an equation.
- solve systems of equations.
For Evening Practice, the students are expected to...
- answer questions 19 - 29 on page 526.
