Class Topics: 02.28.13

In Math Six today, students continued to review for Friday's Unit Six Summative Pretest by playing Jeopardy.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. apply problem-solving and decision-making.
  2. communicate mathematical ideas.
  3. use order of operations to simplify numerical expressions.
  4. use simple expressions involving integers.
  5. add, subtract, multiply and divide integers.
  6. solve equations that have integers.
  7. convert between scientific and standard notation.
For Evening Practice, the student is assigned...
  1. the second side of last night's Evening Practice.
In Pre-Algebra today, the students discussed yesterday's Chapter Eight Midpoint Quiz.  Students then worked with Lesson 8.4: Percent Increases and Decreases.  This lesson included ways to solve problems such as:
  • An electronics store pays $255.50 for a TV and sells it for $357.70. What is the percent of increase in the price of the TV?
  • In 1896 Thomas Burke of the U.S. won the 100-meter dash at the Summer Olympics with a time of 12.00 seconds. In 2000, Maurice Green of the U.S. won with a time of 9.87 seconds. What was the percent decrease in the winning time?

Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. use problem solving skills to answer questions that incorporate percents.
  2. incorporate equations or proportions to answer real-life problems involving percents.
For Evening Practice, the student should complete one of the following based on their performance from today's lesson quiz...
  1. LI - answer questions 9 - 16 and 32 on pages 418 and 419.
  2. LII - answer questions 23 - 30 and 32 on pages 418 and 419.
  3. LIII - answer questions 29 - 36 on pages 418 and 419.
  4. view the video posted below and leave some feedback about how it could pertain to you.

  1. I think it might pertain us later in life because if you were doing animation skills then you'll need to know it or else it would be messed up.
