In Math Six today, students worked in groups to review last night's Evening Practice.  Once that was complete, Mr. Giomini addressed any unresolved questions.  Mr. Giomini then introduced, modeled and practiced with students Lesson 2.6 - Exponents from the Pre-Algebra curriculum.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. identify the base and power when dealing with exponents.
  2. demonstrate what three to the fourth power means.
  3. simplify 5 * 5 * 5 * 5 * 5 using a base and exponent.
  4. explain how 5 * 5 is different than five to the fifth power.
  5. evaluate expressions with exponents.
For Evening Practice, the student is assigned...
  1. the Google Form which serves as a review for last week's material.  (CLICK HERE if you missed the first one.)

In Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed yesterday's Chapter Seven Summative Posttest results with Mr. Giomini.  Inferences were made as to why students as a whole experienced the level of success that they did on this assessment.  Students were then broken into small learning pods to complete six questions, all dealing with percents, that will help introduce some of the newer concepts for Chapter Eight - Percents which we will pretest tomorrow.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be introduced to...
  1. writing equivalent percents, decimals and fractions.
  2. finding the missing value in a percent problem.
  3. solving percent problems involving discounts, sales tax and tips.
  4. finding the amount of simple interest.
  5. calculating the percent increase or decrease for an item.
For Evening Practice, the student is assigned...
  1. questions twenty-one through twenty-four on page 403.
