Class Topics: 02.11.13

In Math Six today, students received back their Unit Six Midpoint Quiz from Friday. Mr. Giomini discussed a few of the questions that seemed to trouble students.  Lesson 6.3: Addition and Subtraction of Positive and Negative Numbers was modeled and practiced today in class along with using integers when solving one-step equations.  The term absolute value was brought into conversation to help when determining whether an answer is positive or negative.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. identify the absolute value of a number.
  2. add and subtract positive and negative numbers.
  3. solve one-step equations involving adding and subtracting of positive and negative numbers.
For Evening Practice, the student has been assigned...
  1. Math Box 6.3.
  2. Lesson 2.2 - Practice A - CLICK HERE!!!!

In Pre-Algebra today, students worked with Lesson 7.6 - Similar Figures.  In this lesson, we first introduced the topic by showing how it is applied to a profession in the real-world by attempting to solve a problem.  Mr. Giomini shared that for polygons to be similar, corresponding angles must be congruent and corresponding sides must have lengths that form equivalent ratios.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. compare images formed by a scale factor greater than 1 to an image formed by a scale factor less than 1.
  2. describe one way for two figures not be similar.
  3. explain whether two congruent figures are similar.
For Evening Practice, the student has been assigned...
  1. questions 1 - 9 on page 370 for Level I
  2. questions 7 - 16 on pages 370 and 371 for Level II
  3. questions 11 - 20 on page 371 for Level III
