Class Topics: 01.23.13

In Math Six today, students discussed last night's Evening Practice with a peer who was assigned the same question.  Once that was complete, students were placed into pairs by Mr. Giomini and given questions that dealt with area and perimeter of shapes.  This review will help with test preparation for Friday's Unit Five Summative Posttest.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. add and multiply multi-digit whole numbers.
  2. determine which measure appropriately fits a specific situation.
  3. create a shape that fits a specific area or perimeter.
For Evening Practice, students are required to...
  1. use the questions posted to the blog to assist in test preparation.
In Pre-Algebra today, students discussed last night' Evening Practice while comparing their answer to Mr. Giomini's.  Students then began the final lesson of Chapter Six: Lesson 6.10 - Spheres.  Class discussed the different components of a sphere such as: hemisphere and great circle.  Mr. Giomini modeled how to implement the formulas and then assigned students to various leveled tasks to practice.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. find the surface area of a sphere when given dimensions.
  2. find the volume of a sphere when given dimensions.
  3. apply the formulas for surface area and volume of a sphere to real-world applications.
For Evening Practice, students are required to...
  1. answer questions:
    • Level I: 9 - 14 on page 326.
    • Level II: 14 - 19 on page 326.
    • Level III: 19 - 24 on page 326.
