Class Topics: 01.22.13

In Math Six today, students wrapped up Unit Five: Congruence and Parallel Lines by working with Lesson 5.10 - Properties of Parallelograms.  During this lesson, students explored the different relationships that exist within parallelograms:
  1. pairs of opposite sides are parallel
  2. pairs of opposite sides are congruent
  3. angles at opposite vertices are congruent
  4. the sum of the measures of a pair of consecutive angles is 180°
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers.
  2. determine angle measures by applying definitions and properties of angles, triangles and quadrilaterals.
  3. write and evaluate algebraic expressions.
For Evening Practice, students are required to...
  1. answer one of the questions posted below on a sheet of paper or in your Quad Notebook.

In Pre-Algebra today, students collaborated with peers to check on their leveled Weekend Practice as they compared their answers with Mr. Giomini's.  Once that concluded, we wrapped up Lesson 6.9: Surface Area of Cones and Pyramids by completing a layered activity where students were assigned to a group to complete a task.  Feedback was provided by Mr. Giomini once each task was accomplished.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. develop a formula that can be used to calculate the surface area of a pyramid.
  2. apply the formula for finding surface area of a cone and pyramid to real-world applications.
For Evening Practice, students are required to...
  1. make corrects to the thirteen questions of their Chapter Six Formative Pretest accompanied by work.
  2. answer the following questions based on the number that Mr. Giomini assigned you today in class:
    • Level III: 9 - 13 on pages 322 and 323
    • Level II: 5 - 8 on page 322
    • Level I: 1 - 4 on page 322

  1. 1. Say the total of the class was 20, and and have the class was boys and the other half was boys. So that would be 10. They say 80% of 10 girls wanted to go on the field trip. So that would be 8/10 girls wanted to go on the field trip. Then they said that 70% of 10 boys wanted to go on the field trip so 7 of the 10 boys wanted to go on the field trip so 7+8=15 so 15/20 of the class students wanted to go on the field trip 15/20= 0.75*100= 75% so Carlos is right.
