Class Topics: 01.07.13

In Math Six today, students begin Unit Five: Lesson 5.1 - Measuring and Drawing Angles. During this lesson, students reviewed how to measure angles with the use of a protractor and also how to construct an angle when given a specific measure such as 32° using a straight-edge and protractor.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. measure an angle using the appropriate tool.
  2. construct an angle using the appropriate tools.
  3. label angles appropriately.
  4. name an angle.
  5. identify the different components of an angle.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that the student...
  1. complete Math Journal page 165.
In Pre-Algebra today, students worked in Chapter Six: Lesson 6.4 - Circles.  Students worked collaboratively together with two other colleagues to uncover the secret of pi and how it relates to circles using a tape measure and some circular object provided by Mr. Giomini.  After some exploration and discovery, students worked with the formulas for area and circumference of a circle.

Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. explore how pi is related to circles.
  2. calculate the area and circumference of a circle using the appropriate formula.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that the student...
  1. complete the Pythagorean Theorem handout that was distributed in class.

later writing "I am ashamed to tell you to
how many figures I carried these computations".
