Class Topics: 11.15.11

In EDM, students completed their collaborative assignment from yesterday.  At the conclusion of class, groups presented their finished assignment to their peers.  Look for some videos either today or tomorrow.
  • HW: EDM Mathematics Review - 11.15.11 - Located on the class blog

In Pre-Algebra, students discussed measures of central tendency: mean, median, and mode.  We examined how an outlier can distort the measures of central tendency, especially the mean.

  • HW: Pgs 184 - 187: 8 - 20, 26, 27, 29, and 30

Infer as to why there are more border crossings
in California and Texas.

  1. Based on the data given,, I can infer that there are more border crossings in Texas and California because those are two very large states with large populations. It does not specifically say they were leaving, and those are popular vacation spots, so those people might even have come in and left later.

  2. I think there are more border crossings in Texas than California because 4 states border Texas, when only 3 border California. Also, There is a bigger area where Texas is bordered with Mexico, and California only has a little bit touching Mexico.

  3. Texas has a large border with Mexico, and a very large population.
California has a small border line with Mexico, but still has some. California has a very large population, also. More than Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, and New Mexico.
