Day 91: Math 6: Calculation Quiz and Midpoint Review / Math 6+: Calculation Quiz and Simple Interest

Math 6 students completed their second Calculation Quiz of the third quarter. Mr. Giomini spent time discussing yesterday's Topic Six Midpoint to clarify some common misconceptions.

Students now have access to the Topic Six Online Assessment through Pearson. The assessment is eight days away Please use your time wisely in preparing for the assessment. Your teacher is available to meet with Monday through Thursday during recess and any day of the week during Academic Extension.



Math 6+ students completed their second Calculation Quiz of the third quarter. Mr. Giomini spent more time reviewing how to calculate simple interest.


Skills that were introduced, modeled, practiced, and informally/formally assessed today in class include:
Math 6:
  • Write equivalent values as fractions, decimals, and percents.
  • Write fractions as decimals and percents when the denominator of the fraction is not 100.
  • Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity).
  • Solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
Math 6+:
  • Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity). 
  • Solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
  • Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error. (7th Grade)
