Day 85: Math 6: Fractions, Decimals, and Percents / Math 6+: Percent of a Number

Students in Math 6 today worked with Lesson 6.2: Relate Fractions, Decimals, and Percents. During the lesson, students further developed their number sense as they express a part to whole relationship in three different ways. Conceptual understanding of percents deepens as they learn procedures for finding equivalent fractions, decimals, and percents.

Math 6+ students delved into some challenge problems based on last Thursday's work where they solved story problems dealing with percents of a number.

Skills that were introduced, modeled, practiced, and informally assessed today in class include:
Math 6:
  • Write equivalent values as fractions, decimals, and percents.
  • Write fractions as decimals and percents when the denominator of the fraction is not 100.
Math 6+:
  • Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity).
  • Solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
Getting closer to having 100% of 7th Grade Mastered. YES!!
