Day 65: Math 6 - Equivalent Ratios / Math 6+ - Scale Drawings

Math 6 students began class by reviewing a few problems that Mr. Giomini selected from last night's Evening Practice. Students then completed the Lesson 5.1 Online Quiz.

Mr. Giomini introduced and modeled Lesson 5.2: Generate Equivalent Ratios. This lesson tied in our previous work with equivalent fractions. Classes spent time both simplifying ratios and using multiplication to generate equivalent ratios.

Math 6+ students worked with making comparisons between and finding dimensions of scale drawings and actual objects. We again used proportions to help us with this process.

Standards addressed in today's class:
Math 6:
  • Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities.
  • Understand the concept of a unit rate a/b associated with a ratio a:b with b ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship.
  • Make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements.
Math 6+:
  • Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale. (Gr. Seven)
