Day 44: Math 6 - Understand Equations and Solutions / Math 6+ - GCF and LCM

Students in Math 6 were administered their final calculation quiz of the first quarter. Once that was completed, Mr. Giomini introduced and modeled Lesson 4.1: Understand Equations and Solutions.

This is the first lesson of Topic Four: Represent and Solve Equations and Inequalities. In this lesson, students use their prior knowledge from Topic Three with substituting values to evaluate an expression. This time, we are determining whether the value makes the equation true.

Calculation Quiz Nine made this girl's head ache.
Math 6+ students completed Calculation Quiz Nine today. After the assessment was gathered, Mr. Giomini introduced and modeled a lesson on Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and Least Common Multiple (LCM).

The next three days are going to be utilized to fill in some missing concepts that are a part of the first quarter syllabus.

Standards addressed today during class:
Math 6:
  • Understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question: which values from a specified set, if any, make the equation or inequality true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation or inequality true.
Math 6+:
  • Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1-100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor. For example, express 36 + 8 as 4 (9 + 2)
