Day 29: Math 6 - GCF and LCM / Math 6+: Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides of the Equation

In Math 6, students continued their work with GCF and LCM from Friday's class period. Mr. Giomini reviewed what was discussed and modeled on Friday before moving to LCM. During the class period, students had the opportunity to work on their evening practice to help develop a greater understanding of the skills.

Math 6+ students asked questions regarding writing and solving equations from the weekend's evening practice. Mr. Giomini introduced solving equations when variables were present on both sides of the equal sign. Working with an assigned partner, students began their evening practice so that Mr. Giomini could help clarify any questions that were asked before students left class.

Standards addressed in today's lessons:
  • Math 6:
    • Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1-100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor. For example, express 36 + 8 as 4 (9 + 2).
  • Math 6+:
    • Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities. (7th)
