Day 30: Understand and Represent Exponents

Today in Math 6 and 6+, Mr. Giomini introduced the next topic: Numeric and Algebraic Expressions. To help preview the unit, students worked with multiples and factors to help build fluency with our multiplication facts.

Lesson 3.1: Understand and Represent Exponents was introduced, modeled, and practice. Mr. Giomini talked about the difference between the base and exponent. Students practiced with using the base as the factor and the exponent being the number that indicated how many times the base becomes a factor.

Lesson Objectives: The student will be able to...
  • write expressions using whole number exponents to represent real-world and mathematical problems.
  • evaluate expressions with whole number exponents.
