Day 142: Area of Shaded Regions / Performance Based Task / Socrative

Today in 1° Math 6, students reviewed working with circles.  This time, the area or circumference was provided and students had to determine the radius and diameter.

In Math 6 during 2°, students used their knowledge of measures of center and variability to complete a performance based task.

Students in 3° continued their worked with area and circumference of circles.  To add another layer of stretch to circles, students dealt with semicircles and calculating the area of shaded regions of geometric shapes.

Math 6+ students completed an online or paper and pencil Socrative dealing with the area of shaded regions of plane geometric shapes.  Once the Socrative concluded, questions dealing with vertical, supplementary, and complementary angles were discussed and modeled.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • recognize that a measure of center for a numerical data set summarizes all of its values with a single number, while a measure of variation describes how its values vary with a single number. (2°)
  • summarize numerical data sets in relation to their context. (2°)
  • find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes. (1, 3 and 7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1° -
    • Continue test preparation.
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 2° -
    • Handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 3° -
    • Begin test preparation.
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 7° -
    • Continue test preparation.
    • Have 100% of 7th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • All Classes: Complete at least 10 minutes of work on Khan Academy to help review old content, practice new material, or front-load future concepts.
