Day 140: Area of Shaded Figures / Application Mean / Application Practice

Today in 1° Math 6, students reviewed the area and circumference of circles.  Mr. Giomini modeled how to solve problems dealing with the area of shapes with shaded regions similar to the one below.

In Math 6 during 2°, students continued their work with exploring mean.  This lesson work with problems similar to the one posted below.

Students in 3° worked with area and circumference of circles.  Mr. Giomini discussed the relationship between pi, radius, and diameter.

Math 6+ students worked independently to complete a task dealing with the application of skills learned from our current topic of study: plane geometry.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • recognize that a measure of center for a numerical data set summarizes all of its values with a single number, while a measure of variation describes how its values vary with a single number. (2°)
  • summarize numerical data sets in relation to their context. (2°)
  • find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes. (1, 3 and 7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1 & 3° -
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 2° -
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 7° -
    • Have 100% of 7th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • All Classes: Complete at least 10 minutes of work on Khan Academy to help review old content, practice new material, or front-load future concepts.
