Day 138: Circles / Median, Mode, Range / Angles

Today in Math 6, students in 1° began working with the area and circumference of circles.  Mr. Giomini discussed the difference between approximate and precise answers when working with pi.

Students practiced with finding the area and circumference of a circle by using objects, string, and rulers.

In Math 6 during 2°, students began Topic 15.3: Median, Mode, and Range.  Mean was reviewed from yesterday using a quick quiz.

During the lesson, students continued work with measures of center and worked with range, a measure of variability, to help lay the groundwork for mean absolute deviation.

Students in 3° completed a Socrative that dealt with the area of various polygons.

Math 6+ students worked with different types of angles such as complementary, supplementary, and vertical.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • recognize that a measure of center for a numerical data set summarizes all of its values with a single number, while a measure of variation describes how its values vary with a single number. (2°)
  • summarize numerical data sets in relation to their context. (2°)
  • find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes. (1, 3 and 7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1 & 3° -
    • Complete handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 2° -
    • Complete pages 765 and 766.
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 7° -
    • Complete page handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Have 100% of 7th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • All Classes: Complete at least 10 minutes of work on Khan Academy to help review old content, practice new material, or front-load future concepts.
