Day 44: Estimating with Decimals / Test Preparation / Dividing Fractions

Today in Math 6 - 1 & 3°, students began Concept Three: Operations with Rational Numbers today. Mr. Giomini discussed the different skills that are going to be introduced, practiced, and assessed over the next several weeks.

Students then began with estimating decimal sums, differences, products, and quotients.

During Math 6 - 2°, students spent time playing a Jeopardy style game to help review for tomorrow's Topic Two posttest.

Students in Math 6+ worked independently today on dividing fractions due to Mr. Giomini being involved in professional development for the second half of the day.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation. (1 & 3°)
  2. understand solving an equation.  (2°)
  3. use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation true. (2°)
  4. interpret and compute quotients of fractions. (7°)
  5. solve word problems involving division of fractions by fractions.  (7°)
  6. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6 - 1 & 3: 7 and 8
  2. Math 6 - 2°:  Begin work on the practice test from Mr. Giomini
  3. Math 6+: Pages 27 and 28
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
