Day 26: Scholastic Magazine / Formulas

Today in Math 6 - 1 & 3°, students completed a second Quick Check dealing with the distributive property.  This was graded in class and entered into PowerSchool.

Students worked with a colleague to complete the mathematical application piece to the article "The Future of Firefighting."

During Math 6 - 2°, students worked with different formulas to help with the understanding of substitution and order of operations.  The Lesson 1.9 Reteach to Build Understanding handout was utilized to help us understand some of the different formulas that exist.  A lesson Quick Check was administered and completed in class.

Students in Math 6+ began work with Concept Two: Integers and Rational Numbers.  The focus was on integers and identifying a number's opposite.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. write and evaluate algebraic expressions.  (1 and 3°)
  2. evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables.  (2°)
  3. understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values.  (7°)
  4. use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts.  (7°)
  5. recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line.  (7°)
  6. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6 - 1 & 3: Khan
  2. Math 6 - 2°:  Begin test preparation
  3. Math 6+: Pages 2, 3 and 4
