Day 23: Concept One Posttest / Evaluating Expressions

Today in Math 6, students in  and 3° completed the Concept One posttest.

During Math 6 - 2°, Mr. Giomini introduced and modeled Lesson 1.8: Equivalent Expressions.  In this lesson, students used their previously learned skills: order of operations, substitution, distributive property, and evaluating expressions for a given value, and then incorporated tables to provide additional stretch to the concepts.

Pages 49, 50, and 51 were completed together to help develop proficiency with the concepts before students began their evening practice towards the conclusion of class.

Math 6+ students completed the Concept One posttest.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. write expressions that record operations with numbers and letters standing for numbers. (1, 3 and 7°)
  2. simplify algebraic expressions by combining like terms.  (all classes)
  3. apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.  (all classes)
  4. write and evaluate numerical expression involving whole-number exponents. (all classes)
  5. evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables.  (all classes)
  6. read, write, and solve one-step equations.  (1, 3 and 7°)
  7. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6 - 1 & 3: 10 minutes of Khan
  2. Math 6 - 2°:  Page 52 in enVision workbook
  3. Math 6+:  10 minutes of Khan
