Day 19: Evaluating Algebraic Expressions / Distributive Property / Prime Factorization

Today in Math 6, students in  and 3° reviewed last night's homework with Mr. Giomini dealing with combining like terms.  Class than began to review order of operations as well and how the algorithm is used to evaluate algebraic expressions.  Time was provided in class for students to begin their evening practice.

During Math 6 - 2°, Mr. Giomini continued their work with Lesson 1.6: Write Equivalent Expressions.  After reviewing last night's evening practice and completing a few more example problems, students worked online with 1.6 Practice Buddy.  As students worked, support was provided to help students better understand the concept.

Math 6+ students reviewed their previous work with prime factorization, greatest common factor, and least common multiple.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. write expressions that record operations with numbers and with letters standing for numbers.            (1 and 3°)
  2. identify parts of an expression using mathematical terms (sum, term, product, factor, quotient, coefficient.  (2°)
  3. view one or more parts of an expression as a single entity.  (2°)
  4. apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.  (2°)
  5. find the greatest common factor and least common multiple of two whole numbers.  (7°)
  6. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation.  (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6: Practice Buddy 1.5
  2. Math 6 - 2°:  Pages 41 and 42
  3. Math 6+:  Numbers 20, 21, 34 - 38 on page 88  (CLICK HERE)
