Day 16: Solving Multistep Equations/Evaluating Algebraic Expressions/Writing and Solving Multistep Equations

Today in Math 6, students in  and 3° continued their work with solving algebraic equations. Students focused on stretching yesterday's proficiency with solving one step equations to working with multistep equations.  Mr. Giomini stressed the importance of substituting answers back into the equations to see if solutions made the original equations true.

During Math 6 - 2°, continued their work with Lesson 1.5: Evaluate Algebraic Expressions. Students completed a quick check quiz dealing with evaluating algebraic expressions when values were given for various variables.

Math 6+ students continued their work with writing and solving multistep equations.  Class was broken into groups of three to complete a small task and then students shared out their equations and solutions.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question.  (1 and 3°)
  2. use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation or inequality true.  (1 and 3°)
  3. evaluate expressions at specific values for their variables.  (2°)
  4. solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form        and px q for cases in which p, q and are all non-negative rational numbers. (7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6: Page 49 and 50
  2. Math 6 - 2°:  Lesson 1.5 Practice Buddy.
  3. Math 6+: Digital handout.  (CLICK HERE)
