Class Topics: 10.04.13

In Common Core Math Six today, students in 1, 3, and  completed the Chapter Two posttest.  This was a challenging assessment with a great deal of paper and pencil computations.  Look for grades later in the day on Friday or early Saturday morning.

Students in worked with combining like terms to begin the day as Mr. Giomini modeled a game for students to play with at home.  Lesson 2.10: Equations and Their Solutions was introduced through a quick matching game with students.   Class was broken into small groups to begin their weekend practice.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  • determine the product of a number in exponential form.  (1, 3, and )
  • convert between scientific and standard notation.   (1, 3, and )
  • evaluate expressions using the rules for order of operations.   (1, 3, and )
  • create prime factor strings for numbers and use that to calculate the GCF and LCM.   (1, 3, and )
  • translate a word phrase into an algebraic expression.   (1, 3, and )
  • simplify and algebraic expression by combining like terms.   (1, 3, and )
  • solve equations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.   (1, 3, and )
  • write an expression from a story problem.   (1, 3, and )
  • determine whether the solution for an equation as correct.   ()
    • j =6 for 15 - j = 21, No because 15 - 6 does not equal 21.
For Weekend Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1, 3, and -
    • enjoy the weekend off.
    • textbook page 106: numbers 7, 8, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, and 25  (Some students)
    • Practice A and Problem Solving  (Some students)
