Class Topics: 03.21.13

In Math Six today, students reviewed with Mr. Giomini for tomorrow's Unit Seven Midpoint Quiz.  The two videos posted below were viewed in class and helped with our understanding of dependent and independent events.  Questions similar to the ones below were discussed, modeled and practiced.
  • What is the probability that you will grab a yellow marble out of the box?
  • What is the probability that you will grab a blue marble, put it back into the box and then grab a green?
  • What is the probability that you will grab three consecutive marbles from the box after putting each one back in?
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. develop theoretical data based on a spinner or die simulation.
  2.  test their theoretical data by conducting an experiment.
  3. draw conclusions as to why their theoretical and experimental probabilities either matched or didn't match.
  4. determine whether two events are dependent or independent.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  1. complete "No Longer Just a Summer Sport" handout provided in class.
  2. view the video posted below and take notes.

In Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed last night's Evening Practice with Mr. Giomini.  Once that was complete, Mr. Giomini introduced, modeled and discussed Lesson 9.5 - Fundamental Counting Principal.
  • How many ways can 5 paintings be line up on a wall?
  • Rob has 4 shirts, 3 pairs of pants, and 2 pairs of shoes that all coordinate. How many outfits can you put together?
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. calculate the number of possible outcomes in an experiment.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  1. answer questions one through seventeen and twenty-two through twenty-eight on pages 469 and 470.
  2. complete the two Khan skills listed below by Monday:
