Class Topics: 03.19.13

In Math Six today, students reviewed their Evening Practice with Mr. Giomini before continuing our unfinished work in Lesson 7.7 - Fair and Unfair Games.  At the conclusion of class, Mr. Giomini posted three of the pretest questions on the board and had students compare their pretest answer to what they believe the answer to be now that they have spent time working in Unit Seven.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. determine whether a game is fair or unfair.
  2. state changes that need to be made to a game in order that it is made into a fair game.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  1. make corrections to their Unit Seven Formative Pretest.
  2. complete Math Journal page 269.

Why is this game unfair?

In Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed last night's Evening Practice with Mr. Giomini before moving into Lesson 9.3 - Use a Simulation.  The students and Mr. Giomini discussed how computers can generate random numbers.  We viewed Mr. Hartwell's video posted below to help us introduce and model the lesson beforehand so that we could better understand trials and simulations.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. use a simulation's data to estimate the probability of an event occurring.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  1. answer questions one through fifteen on pages 458 and 459.
  2. work on the following Khan Skills for Friday:
