Class Topics: 08.30.12

In Math Six today, students discussed and compared the difference between median and mean.  The term outlier was introduced and we modeled how an outlier can affect the mean for a data set.

Students worked with Mr. Giomini to complete Math Journal page 14.  Class was then divided into pods to collaborate on Math Journal page 15.
Today's Learning Intentions: The students will be able to...
  1. analyze data sets.
  2. calculate the mean (average) for data sets.
  3. determine which measure of central tendency most accurately represents a set of data.
For Evening Practice, students CAN...
  1. complete Study Link 1-4.  (Handout)
  2. view video on blog if needed for a reference.

In Pre-Algebra today, students solved and graphed simple inequalities.  Mr. Giomini discussed the various inequality symbols and how to read their meaning.  Students were presented with some applications of inequalities to see their relevance in the real-world.
Today's Learning Intentions: The students will be able to...
  1. simplify algebraic inequalities.
  2. isolate the variable to one side of the inequality.
  3. evaluate the inequality.
  4. check to make sure that their solution makes the inequality true.
  5. graph the solution for the inequality.
For Evening Practice, students CAN...
  • First Period:
    • complete Problem Solving 1-5 (Handout)
  • Third Period:
    • complete numbers 17, 27 - 34, 35 - 41 odd, 43 and 44.
