Class Topics: 04.27.12

In EDM today, the students and Mr. Giomini were able to get back to some normalcy after a tense two days of OAA Testing.  Students collaborated with a peer(s) to work on Lesson 8.9: Using Ratios to Describe Size Changes.  Mr. Giomini modeled the Math Message that students completed as Morning Work once they arrived in class.  Size-change factor was introduced where students created fractions/ratios to compare an enlarged or reduced length : the original length.

In pairs, pods or with Mr. Giomini, students then completed Math Journal pages 310 and 311 which allowed students to practice the new skills.
Today's Learning Intentions: The student will be able to...
  1. create a fraction/ratio that compares a shapes new dimensions : original dimensions.
  2. determine what the scale factor is from new : original.
For Weekend Practice, students CAN...
  1. complete Math Box 8.9 on Math Journal page 312.

In Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed the first three lessons of Chapter 9: Probability by completing the Mid-Chapter Review in their textbook.  This will prepare the students for Monday's Mid-Chapter Quiz.
Today's Learning Intention: The student will be able to...
  1. find the probability of an event and use appropriate terminology when discussing the probability of an event.
  2. state the theoretical probability of an event occurring based on the number of possible outcomes.
  3. compare the theoretical probability of an event occurring to the experimental probability.
  4. use a simulation to estimate probability.
For Weekend Practice, students CAN...
  1. prepare for Monday's Quiz by reviewing Guided Notes from Chapter Nine for Lessons 9.1 - 9.3.
