Class Topics: 01.10.12

In EDM, students in third and fifth period continued work on converting fractions to different sectors of a circle graph by using an algebraic equation in Lesson 5.3: Using a Protractor to Make a Circle Graph.  Students reviewed how to convert fractions to decimals to percents and then applied their knowledge of circle graph construction with their knowledge of angle measures to use a protractor to develop a circle graph when given a table of information.

Students in first period began Lesson 5.4: Coordinate Geometry.  These students located ordered pairs on a coordinate grid and constructed polygons by connecting the different pairs.
In class, students...
  • identified complements and supplements to various angle measures.
  • completed MJ169 and 170.  (Third and Fifth Period)
  • discussed the method for plotting an ordered pair by first locating the origin and x-axis.
  • completed MJ174 and 175.
For homework, students should...
  • complete MJ 171, 172, and 173.  (Third and Fifth Period)
  • complete MJ 176 and 177.  (First Period)
Pretest - Questions Six and Seven

Pretest - Question Eight

In Pre-Algebra, students worked with material from Lesson 5.9: Tessellations.  This was the last lesson of Chapter Five before our Chapter Five Summative Post-test on Thursday, January 12.  Students viewed a video in an attempt to create their own shape that tessellates.
In class, students...

  • predicted and verified patterns involving tessellations.
  • followed directions in an attempt to create a tessellating figure.
  • constructed an original figure to tessellate without gaps or overlaps.
For homework, students should...
  • work on tessellation.
  • review Guided Notes 5.5 - 5.7.
