Welcome to Mr. Giomini's Mathematics Class

Students,

I want to welcome you to your sixth grade year and to your new mathematics class. Throughout the course of the year, you are going to be posed numerous questions, asked to validate your thought process, calculate thousands of numbers, write expressions, equations, inequalities, and your name, develop formulas for calculating the perimeter, volume, and surface area of geometric shapes, determine whether a graphical representation accurately reflects the results of a sample and numerous other things. Your brain is going to be stretched.

You will experience moments of success which is expected. There are also going to be mistakes along the way that you and I both make. These missteps are not final; rather they provide moments for reflection with an opportunity to learn. Use these opportunities to better yourself; embrace mistakes, learn that they are building blocks for future accomplishments.

The school year is a marathon, not a sprint. Enjoy the scenery during this trek. Sixth grade math only happens once in lifetime, unless you teach math once you get older, then it occurs for 30+ years over and over. Realize that everyday provides an opportunity to improve upon the person you were when you woke up.

In relentless pursuit of excellence,

Mr. Giomini
