Day 118: Performance Based Task

Students in Math 6 and Math 6+ worked on performance based tasks in preparation for the Topic Seven Posttest. Classes were set-up in with a testing type of environment where students worked independently for a set amount of time and then collaborated with a peer to discuss answers and work. Mr. Giomini utilized that last 15 minutes of class to model any questions that needed clarification.

Today's Learning Objective(s):
  • Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction. (5th Grade)
  • Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths.
  • Show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism.
  • Apply the formulas V = l w h and V = b h to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
