Day 80: Challenge Problems / Test Preparation / Challenge Problems for Ratios

Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, worked with a colleague to work through some challenging ratio and proportion word problems.  Mr. Giomini circulated the room to provide feedback as students progressed.

During Math 6 - 2°, students spent time reviewing the different lessons from Topic Five as a whole class. Mr. Giomini, Mrs. Long, and Mr. Kiskin spent the rest of the class providing constructive feedback to students as they worked independently to complete a practice assessment.

Students in Math 6+ worked through more application style questions dealing with rates, ratios, and proportions both independently, in pairs, and as a class to build a better foundational understanding of Concept Four topics.
Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. create and solve a proportion for problems dealing with indirect measurement.  (1 & 3°)
  2. analyze the relationship between dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables. (2°)
  3. graph linear equations. (2°)
  4. use variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another.  (2°)
  5. make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements. (7°)
  6. find missing values in tables and plot pairs of values on the coordinate plane.  (7°)
  7. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6(1&3°): Handout from Mr. Giomini
  2. Math 6(2°): Online assessment
  3. Math 6+: Handout from Mr. Giomini
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
