Day Six: LCM and Algebraic Expressions

Today in Math 6, students in  and  continued to polish up on their prime factorization skills by working with least common multiples (LCM).  Students were asked to calculate the LCM of two to four numbers using either of the two algorithms that they are comfortable with while playing a game with a colleague.

During Math 6 - 2°, students were introduced to algebraic expressions.  Mr. Giomini played a video for the students and paused along the way to to help reinforce key points.  In pairs, students worked to complete a task dealing with algebraic expressions.

Math 6+ students were introduced algebraic expressions.  The focus of the lesson was on terminology and translating word phrases into algebraic expressions.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.  (Math 6-2°)
  2. find the least common multiple (LCM) of two whole numbers.  (Math 6 - 1 and 3°)
  3. write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.  (Math 6+)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. complete ten minutes of meaningful practice on Khan Academy.
  2. Math 6: Page 18
  3. Math 6 - 2°: enVision WB page 21
  4. Math 6+: Challenge - Fixed and Variable Costs
