Class Topics: 10.07.14

In Common Core Math Six today, students reviewed their Evening Practice by checking their work with an answer key provided by Mr. Giomini.  A story problem was introduced to the students by Mr. Giomini to see if they could construct and solve an equation dealing with negative numbers that were incorporated into the situation.

The temperature in Nome, Alaska, was -50°F.  This was 18°F less than the
temperature in Anchorage, Alaska, on the same day.  What was
the temperature in Anchorage, Alaska?  Construct and solve an equation
to solve the problem.

Once the above problem was discussed and solved, Lesson 3.6: Solving Equations Containing Integers was introduced, modeled, and independently practiced.  Class had an opportunity to begin their Evening Practice.

Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  • solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
