A cylindrical water tank with a radius of 45' and height of 35' is to be painted. One gallon of paint will cover 100 square feet of surface. How many gallons are needed for two coats of paint?
Students in 2°, you are almost halfway through Chapter Eight. Up to this point, we have discussed customary unit measures, significant digits, and circumference of a circle. Once class resumes, it is expected that you can recall this information for a Quick Check. If you would like, you are encouraged to post an answer to the question below.
Mr. Peltz wanted to build a fence on his land for a new horse. He decided to make
the fence shaped like a circle. After completing his fence, the diameter across
the circular fence was 100 yards. If it costs Mr. Peltz $2.99 per yard for his fence,
how much did he have to pay altogether?

Just a few of the football games I have been to in the last 25 years.
For a final answer I got that they would need to use approximently 4451 gallons of paint to put to coats on the cylinder. Here is what I did to get my answer, first since we are talking about how much paint to put on the outside of something this is surface area and since it is a cylinder I used this formula: pi * r squared * h. From there I just plugged in number so my equation looked something like this: 3.14 * 45 squared * 35. Your end product should be 222547.5, but wait sice you have to put on 2 coats you must double the surface area of the one coat and when you do that you get 445,095 square feet. Then since one gallon of paint covers 100 square feet, I just divided 445,095 by 100 and got 4450.95 galloons of paint but just rounded it cause you can't by .95 of a gallon of paint. In conclusion my final answer is 4451 gallons of paint are needed.

4,450.95 by pi*r sq*h=v. 45 squared is 2,025*35 (the height) *pi= 222,547.5. Then you divide that by 100= 2,225.475 then you multiply that by 2 because there's 2 layers and you get 4,450.95

ReplyDeleteI did pi*45*45*35*2 ( I multiplied it by two because there is two layers of paint) and got the answer 445,095 gallons of paint
