Class Topics: 11.02.11

In EDM today, we worked with analyzing spreadsheets in our math journals.  I discussed with the students how I use spreadsheets when inputting their formative and summative testing data.  We then opened up a Google Doc Spreadsheet to complete a simple task.

There will be a project posted to the blog for the students to complete either during recess, Advisory, or out of school that will help incorporate some of the skills that we touched on today.

Finally, we answered the following Quick Check questions to review our understanding of unit rates.
  • Identify the better deal:  $2.99 for 32 oz of Apple Juice or $3.99 for 48 oz of Apple Juice
  • Identify the better deal: $23.99 for 3 pounds of turkey or $30.00 for 4 pounds of turkey.
Homework Help

In Pre-Algebra today, we finished up Chapter Three by discussing irrational, rational, and real numbers.  Throughout the chapter, the students have been working with rational numbers, but now we mixed in the new terms of irrational and real.

The Chapter Three Summative Assessment will take place on Friday during sixth period. Students are encouraged to come in early either Thursday or Friday morning to form mini-study groups if they would like.  Several students came in last week and it appeared to work because the average grade for those students was roughly a 95% on the Mid-Chapter Summative Quiz.
Imagine the possibilities.

These numbers are soooooo real.

  1. I, too, like the Venn Diagram above. I chose to include some perfect squares in the rational circle because I found my kids thinking all square roots are irrational.
