Day 27: Math 6 - Understand and Represent Exponents / Math 6+ - Write and Solve Two-Step Equations

Students in Math 6 began Topic Three: Numeric and Algebraic Expressions. The initial lesson developed our understanding of exponents and how to use them in real-world situations.

Math 6+ students continued working with solving two-step equations. We stretched our understanding today to include writing equations for scenarios similar to the examples listed below. This is a challenging skill; one that we'll devote a good deal of class time to over the next two days.

Standards addressed in today's lessons:
  • Math 6:
    • Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.
  • Math 6+:
    • Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities. (7th)
