Today, Mr. Giomini introduced and modeled Lesson 3.4: Write Algebraic Expressions. The focal point was for students to utilize their current level of understanding of mathematical language, such as the ones listed below, and translate them into algebraic expressions using numbers, variables, and operations.
In Math 6(3/7°) and Math 6+, Mr. Giomini reviewed Lesson 3.5: Evaluate Algebraic Expressions with students by giving them three problems to begin class. Once answers were verified, Mr. Giomini introduced Lesson 3.6: Generate Equivalent Expressions.
Lesson Objectives: The student will be able to...
- more than a number / sum of
- fewer than / less than / the difference
- a number squared / a number cubed
- times a quantity / the product of
- divided by / the quotient

Students spent time working with the distributive property as well as GCF to help with creating equivalent algebraic expressions.
- evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables. (1°)
- perform arithmetic operations. (1°)
- write equivalent algebraic expressions. (2/3/7°)
- identify equivalent algebraic expressions. (2/3/7°)
- justify whether two expressions are equivalent. (2/3/7°)
