Day 24: Test Preparation and Application

Today in Math 6, students reviewed calculated distance on a coordinate plane which was modeled and practiced last Friday. Mr. Giomini introduced Lesson 2.6: Represent Polygons on the Coordinate Plane.

This lesson took what students learned about quadrants, plotting points on a coordinate plane, and blended it with student's knowledge of area and perimeter.

Students in Math 6+ worked with creating polygons on the coordinate plane. Their constructions dealt with incorporating inequalities which provided parameters for how their polygon needed to be designed. A thorough knowledge of the area of a square/rectangle and how to unsquare a number was needed in order to be successful with this lesson.

In this lesson, students will be able to...
  • find side lengths of polygons on the coordinate plane.
  • find the perimeter of polygons on the coordinate plane.
Essential Understanding:
  • The coordinates of the vertices of a polygon on the coordinate plane can be used to find the lengths of the sides of the polygon and its perimeter.
