Day 146: Volume / Box Plots / Volume

Today in 1 and 3° Math 6, students reviewed the Plane Geometry posttest back.  Mr. Giomini discussed somes areas of concern on the assessment that need to be clarified.

Students were then introduced to calculating the volume of right rectangular prisms using sand.

In Math 6 during 2°, students continued their work with data analysis by constructing box plots.  This skill tied in nicely with our work from the previous week with measures of center, specifically median.

Math 6+ students began work with calculating the volume of right rectangular prisms with fractional edges.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • display numerical data in plots on a number line, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots. (2°)
  • summarize numerical data sets in relation to their context. (2°)

  • find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths. (1, 3 and 7°)
  • apply the formulas V = lwh and V = bh to find volumes of right rectangular prisms. (1, 3 and 7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1 and 3° -
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 2° -
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 7° -
    • Have 100% of 7th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • All Classes: Complete at least 10 minutes of work on Khan Academy to help review old content, practice new material, or front-load future concepts.
