Day 33: Solving Equations with Integers / Equations and Solutions / Ordering Rational Numbers

Today in Math 6 - 1 & 3°, students reviewed their work from last week dealing with solving equations that contained integers.  Mr. Giomini extended the work by having students work with multistep equations.  Time was given towards the end of class to work on homework.

During Math 6 - 2°, Topic Two: Algebra - Solve Equations and Inequalities was started.  The focus was balancing equations by making sure that both sides equaled the same amount once variables were isolated or evaluated.  Students solved equations primarily by substituting given values to make an equation true.

Students in Math 6+, worked with ordering rational numbers on a number line.  With a partner, students had the opportunity to rearrange their rational and irrational number sort that we start two weeks ago.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question from a specified set.  (1, 3, and 7°)
  2. use substitution to determine whether a number makes an equation true.  (1, 2 and 3°)
  3. find and position integers and other rational numbers on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram. (7°)
  4. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6 - 1 & 3: Digital textbook page 160 numbers 13 - 27  (CLICK HERE)
  2. Math 6 - 2°:  Page 85 in the enVision workbook
  3. Math 6+: 29, 30, and 31
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
