Class Topics: 01.24.12


In EDM, students dissected some of the commonly missed questions from yesterday's Discovery Education Assessment.  Students viewed their results are were able to see their progress from our first assessment back in September.

Students identified parallel lines and angle relationships in Lesson 5.9.  We discussed skew lines and brainstormed where one may find skew lines, complementary and supplementary angles.
In class, students...
  • completed the following Quick Check: Mr. Giomini has a garden that has an area of 36 sq ft.  Decide two different sets of dimensions for the garden and which will require the fewer amount of materials to build a fence around.
  • worked in small groups to complete differentiated tasks dealing with parallel lines, transversals and angle measures.
For homework, students SHOULD...
  • view the video posted below.
  • review Guided Notes for Lesson 5.3 and 5.4.
  • complete any task that was not completed in class for homework depending on the group you were working with at the time.

In Pre-Algebra, students began to explore how to find the area of triangles and trapezoids by using a parallelogram.  We reviewed the concepts introduced in Guided Notes 6.2: Perimeter and Area of Triangles and Trapezoids.
In class, students...
  • modeled how to find the area of a triangle using a square.
  • discussed how diagonals dissect shapes from one vertice to a non-adjacent vertice.  
  • explained how the area of a trapezoid is half of the area of a parallelogram.
  • completed a Lesson Quiz for a five point grade.
For homework, students SHOULD...
  • complete Guided Notes for Lesson 6.3.
  • complete Practice 6.2 and Challenge 6.2.
  • complete problems 27-31 on pg 288.
